Whenever you speak about diamonds, initially everybody imagines this type of diamond. These diamonds are naturally created and mined from the ground. These are white colorless diamonds. Natural diamonds i.e. white diamonds you may find in the majority in any retail store.
Treated diamonds are mined like natural diamonds but they are artificially enhanced to look better via processes like fracture filling, laser drilling, or HPHT color treatments to make them saleable. These are much cheaper than natural diamonds as it’s the only way that these diamonds can be sold.
These diamonds are available in almost every imaginable color and account for a very small percentage of the world’s diamond production. The demand for pink, yellow, blue, purple, violet, red, green, gray, white, black diamonds and more, has boomed in recent years.
This type of diamond is called Lab-grown diamonds. Because these diamonds are created in laboratories, have gained traction with consumers in recent years because of their affordability. They may also be available in several carat sizes and different color hues. Recently, the cost of man-made diamonds was thirty percent beneath equivalent regular diamonds, today they are 50%-60% cheaper and some say that in just a few years they will become even 70% cheaper and more.
Types of Diamond- Technical Explanation
It is the most common diamond type. A Type la contains nitrogen in aggregates or large clusters throughout the crystal lattice and due to this stones have a yellowish tinge. These diamonds are mainly known for their feature fluorescence as well as absorption of infrared and ultraviolet light. This category of a diamond can be subcategorized into 2 parts. Type IaA and Type IaB. It is a distinction of nitrogen atoms that form in pairs or fours which also affects the color hue of the diamond.
Type IIa diamonds are made up of roughly 1% of all-natural diamonds and consist of almost no measurable impurities. They do not consist of nitrogen, that is why they have no visible light absorption and no yellowish or brown tint. Apart from other diamonds, type IIa stones are chemically the purest and highly sought after by investors. Pink, gray, yellow, brown, light blue, or light green are some of the fancy colored diamonds of this type. Cullinan and De Beer Millennium Star are some of the most famous diamonds and are examples of type IIa diamonds. Type IIa diamonds are made up under extremely high pressure and have differing levels of fluorescence.
Type lb diamonds are made up of less than 0.1% of natural diamonds and are one of the extremely rare diamonds. The atoms of nitrogen are scattered and isolated instead of being clustered together. And because they scattered, plenty of visible light on the blue finish of the spectrum is absorbed, leading to an intense color like a lot of visible light on the blue finish of the spectrum is absorbed, leading to intense color.
Type IIb also not having nitrogen atoms within the crystal structure. These are also rare and thus highly valuable. Type IIb contains boron in addition to its main carbon content. And due to this element diamonds are not only limited to electrically conductive but also give most of them a bluish or bluish-gray tint.
