Boston's jewelry trade has a long memory. The Jewelers Building at Downtown Crossing has housed independent jewelers, setters and diamond dealers for generations, and New England's old manufacturing towns once supplied much of America's jewelry. Today the city adds something new: founders coming out of its universities and startup scene who launch jewelry brands the way they would launch any product, with a clear thesis, a spreadsheet and a small first batch.
The Accessory Consultant is a custom jewelry manufacturer with a factory in Mumbai, India. We have no Boston office. Our team serves Boston and New England clients remotely, by email, phone and video call.
Two Boston buyers, two very different briefs
The established jeweler. A family-run store or a Jewelers Building tenant usually knows exactly what it wants: a ring mounting, a pendant style or a band profile it already sells, produced in a quantity that a local bench cannot handle economically. These buyers often send a physical piece or a precise drawing. We build CAD from it, make a sample and match production to the sample. The founder with a thesis. A Cambridge or Seaport founder arrives with a brand idea and a target customer, and less certainty about the product itself. For them we work as an ODM partner: we develop designs from a direction, iterate in CAD and help pick materials. Our OEM and ODM guide explains the difference.
Both start with the same commercial terms: MOQ from 50 units per design, about 18 days from CAD to delivery, and NDAs offered for private label and OEM programs.
What "remote" means in practice
You will not meet us at a Boston showroom, so we replace the walk-in visit with documents you can check:
- A written brief confirming styles, quantities and materials
- CAD renders with every revision recorded
- A physical sample shipped to your Boston address
- Production checked against the sample you signed off
- Packed goods shipped to your store, office or warehouse
Boston is on Eastern time, nine and a half to ten and a half hours behind Mumbai. Send comments before you leave the office and revised renders are usually waiting in the morning. International shipping to Boston is separate from the factory timeline and is confirmed once the method is chosen.
Materials New England customers ask for
Classic tastes run deep here. Expect requests for solid gold and sterling silver in simple, durable designs, signet and class-style rings, and natural diamonds for engagement work. Younger D2C brands lean toward gold vermeil and lab-grown diamonds. We will talk through options and you approve the finish on the physical sample.
Gifts, graduations and the academic calendar
